It's beginning to look a lot like the end of the year
Wow! The end of the year is here. I cannot believe we've made it through 2021. This year has definitely been one of the most fulfilling and difficult years. Oh you want some highlights, you say?
Some highlights from this year:
February 2021: I finished writing Ahmad and Nia and the Mistake of the Century
May 2021: the thought of creating One in A Million Publishing came to me after having difficulty accessing all the resources I needed to push my book forward.
July 16, 2021: ONAMP was organized/incorporated in New York.
August 15, 2021: My 30th birthday (WOW!) and ONAMP officially opened to the public.
September 2021: ONAMP signed their first author outside of me.
October 2021: Ahmad and Nia and the Mistake of the Century was Copyrighted and its manuscript is officially in the Library of Congress.
November 2021: the ONAMP shop officially opened
December 2021: We got enough funding to get an illustrator
Sometimes I have to remind myself of all the amazing things that have already occurred since the moment I opened the door on this opportunity. Everything seems to be going sooo quickly. One thing I didn't talk about was the pitfalls.
Unfortunately, Ahmad and Nia was supposed to release in October of 2021. But funding prevented me from releasing it at the time I wanted.
Work demands began to increase, leaving me minimal time and energy to focus in on growing the company
I launched a fundraiser that was not as successful as I would have liked. We had a goal of raising $15,000 by December 15. We raised just over $300. --> This was both a highlight and a pitfall. We raised enough money to pay our bills for the past few months. But we didn't reach our goal, which meant that we hit a few walls that didn't allow us to move forward as quickly as possible.
I've been taking a moment to reflect and be grateful for what the company has accomplished so far and the speed at which we've accomplished these things. This company is so much bigger than me. Yes, there are other small publishing companies, but they're not trying to do what we are. WOW! I am so excited to see where this company takes me and my community in future. Please continue to ride with us and for us as we work to release some amazing books and merch to and for the community.
