Issa process
So, I've been thinking about how important it is to show the process. The process of setting up and running a whole company, largely on my own. The process of publishing my own book. The process of balancing running my company, teaching, having a social life, and sleeping. I've come to realize that I can't do it all, all the time. But, I can document how far I've come.
On all things book related If you've been keeping up with my instagram posts or my website, you may already know that the name of my book is Ahmad and Nia and the Mistake of the Century. It's about a young boy and his sister and their journey to learning that making mistakes is okay. It's all about how you handle the situation. I was through writing this book that I healed that part of me that said making mistakes isn't an option. I reminded myself that making mistakes is a part of life's journey. Through this journey, you learn to own your mistakes while giving yourself grace. I grew up believing I had to be perfect, "normal", incapable of making mistakes. I don't think I was ever really told that mistakes are some of the biggest teachers. It's our journey through correcting our mistakes that make us better people.
I first came up with the idea for this book after asking a bunch of friends what they wished they'd learned when they were kids. One of my dearest friends had mentioned this idea of normalizing making mistakes and learning from them. I connected with this on such a deep level, that I wanted to make sure the first book I ever wrote talked about this very concept. I think it's important for children to feel comfortable with being imperfect. With learning from our mistakes and with implementing those lessons in order to grow into wiser versions of ourselves.
So, the book has been written. Now what? I've found an illustrator I love. I'm working to hire her! I've also found printer I am looking to work with. Once I've gotten the book illustrated, I will be able to get the book printed, published, and sold on different sites -- including this very one! I'm so excited to move onto the next step of this process and am looking forward to taking you all on the journey.
All things business related
So, on the company front we've already gotten 112 followers on instagram! We've only been up and running for just a little over a month -- so that's super exciting. Our fundraiser is going well! We've already raised a few hundred dollars. In only a few weeks! WOW! We also have a few projects in the works. New book reviews have gone up every week and so have the blogs! It's a slow build and things are looking up. I can't wait to see where ONAMP is going. So far, the journey is looking up!
